Weekly Student Ministry Update 10.2.17

Happy Monday!
Welcome, October! I hope everyone has had a great start to the week. I’m looking forward to the cooler weather that October will hopefully bring us soon!

As I woke up this morning and heard the news of the mass shooting in Las Vegas,  my heart became heavy. I instantly think back to living in Orlando when the Pulse nightclub shooting occurred where the amount of suffering and mourning was raw and painful for all, but especially the survivors and the victims’ families. It is extremely difficult to process through the amount of hate and violence we see exhibited all too consistently and frequently. I ask that you please join me in prayer for the people affected and the city of Las Vegas by taking a moment of silence some point today and praying what I’ve written below:

We pray for Las Vegas.

For the victims of hate and violence, their families, and the survivors.

For the uplifting, courageous acts of first responders.

For truth, wisdom, and righteousness.

For us to create labyrinths of peace.

For the honoring of all people from all nations as we seek to work for justice.

For You to lead us in ways of reconciliation.

For healing, hope and unity in Las Vegas, in our country, and in the world.

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer.

For Your life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live together in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

On September 10th we watched “The Shack” as a group with other members of our church family.  The remainder of this month, we’ll focus on the topics that surround this movie for our Sunday and Wednesday nights. Some of the discussion topics are:

Young Adults Update: We will be at Waffle House (corner of 29/Bethesda School Rd) this week on Wednesday (10/4) at 7:30 PM. Please be in prayer for us as we develop ministry in the best way- organically, authentically, and sharing a meal around an open table. We will be creating our social media presence very soon, so keep an eye out for that and be ready to spread the word!

As always, I’m so very thankful for all of you, your dedication to serving God, and what student ministry was, is, and will become. Have a wonderful week!

Grace and Peace,
